What we are looking for

At Brush&Bow we are always on the lookout for journalists, illustrators, musicians, animators, photographers and anyone who has a story to tell by adding a creative edge to their reporting. Our methods are based on the intersection between the arts, community engagement and journalism.

To make sure your idea is in line with Brush&Bow’s methodology, its important that you can answer YES to the three following questions:

1. Does your work/idea/story look at a wider social issue through individual stories?

2. Does your work/idea/story have a creative angle?

3. Does your work/idea/story provide a platform for marginalised voices, challenging dominant narratives?

Send us your idea

We are open to hearing the wildest of ideas and we collaborate with a collection of skilled artists, musicians, technicians and editors, willing to lend their talent to an idea if it inspires them. Be clear, structured and precise. Make sure that your pitch is easy to understand. Tell us the story, why is it important, who are the characters, when and where it takes place, and what makes it worth telling.

What format? Make sure you include detailed information on the format. What mediums will you use? How will you present them? Will you need to work with other collaborators to add more creative input?

Who is your audience? Who are your writing for? Who will care about this story, and why? Think carefully about why your story is important and what impact might it have, what type of audiences are you looking to engage and how does your style and angle draw in the reader.

Why me? Explain to us why you are best placed to tell this story.
